Customer Portal Use Cases for Growers

Are you getting the most out of your data?

Most growers only test when something already looks wrong. A few plants droop, a leaf yellows oddly, and only then does a sample get sent off. By the time the results come back, the pathogen has had a head start, and the report ends up in a drawer instead of preventing the next outbreak.

Meanwhile, your competitors using proactive testing have reduced yield loss by 79% and are making informed decisions with their data, saving them an average of $246K each year . The key is actually using your test results to build a database, rather than just using it to decide what to do with an individual plant.

Here at TUMI Genomics, we don’t just want to be the place you come to find out if your plants are sick. We want to be your testing partner empowering you to make impactful decisions by providing actionable data, one of the things that sets us apart from other testing companies.

Guess what…You’re already paying for this data every time you test. Most growers use a fraction of it, enough to decide what to do with one sick plant, and nothing more. The value isn’t only in more testing. It’s in what the results tell you when you look at them together.

This post is a tour of what’s possible. Four of the use cases below have their own deep-dive write-ups with step by step instructions. The rest are starting points for potential uses of the data you are already receiving by testing with TUMI Genomics.

Floor Map Planning

Pathogens move with people. Every time staff walk from a clean room to an infected one, they bring unwanted passengers with them. Most employees tend to visit rooms by convenience, often visiting the closest rooms first. Sadly, that sequence is almost never the right one for keeping pathogens contained, meaning said employees often unknowingly spread devastating bugs all around your operation.

Our customer portal allows for room-level tracking so you can track the infectivity rates of each room at your facility. From the portal,  you can rank rooms from highest to lowest infectivity rate and build a floor map. Employees start the day in your cleanest rooms and end in the most infected ones. No new tooling. No extra cost. Just a workflow change driven by data you already have.

Strain Disease Resistance Tracking

Most growers have opinions about which strains hold up under disease pressure. Unfortunately, most of those opinions only live in someone’s head, and they disappear when staff turns over. Meanwhile, the same susceptible strain keeps getting planted in the same problem room.

The TUMI customer portal already tracks every single test by strain. Sort the dashboard by strain over time and you can see which strains have genuine resistance to Pythium, Fusarium, and HLVd — and which ones don’t. You have hard evidence you can use to retire underperformers, protect any resistant genetics, and even pitch a documented clean track record to wholesale buyers.

Facility-Wide Pathogen Monitoring Over Time

Most pathogen reviews happen one room or one batch at a time, hiding the bigger picture. Is HLVd creeping up quarter over quarter? Did Fusarium spike after a new feed schedule? Did the Aspergillus problem actually go away after the new cleaning SOP, or did it just move rooms?

Filter the TUMI dashboard by facility, set a date range, and you get one trend line per pathogen for the whole site. Overlay it against operational changes — SOP updates, staffing shifts, equipment swaps — and you can finally tell which interventions worked. Operators with more than one facility can compare sites head to head.

Yield Loss Forecasting

Pathogen load and total yield are linked, but most forecasts don’t reflect that, using last season’s numbers and assuming next season will look similar. If the testing data shows HLVd creeping up in two flower rooms, your forecast should reflect the hit before harvest, not after.

Tie pathogen load by room and strain back to historical yield outcomes and the TUMI customer portal becomes a forward-looking tool. Not only a triage list of rooms that need intervention now, but also a more accurate harvest forecast.

Feeling Inspired? Here Are More Ideas

Prevention & operations

  • Custom cleaning schedules by room. Rooms with repeat positives get deeper cleans more often—let the data set the cadence instead of treating every room the same.
  • Automatic quarantine triggers. Set a positivity threshold (say, 20% of a room testing positive for HLVd) that flags the room for quarantine and re-testing the moment it’s crossed.
  • HVAC zone correlation. Rooms sharing an air handler often share outbreaks. Map Aspergillus patterns to predict spread paths instead of chasing them.
  • SOP and shift correlation. Cross-reference outbreaks with the shifts and staff that touched the plants—the pattern usually points to where training or sanitation needs reinforcement.

Plant Monitoring

  • Mother plant health audits. Trace pathogens back to the source mother by plant ID and cull before the next generation of clones is contaminated.
  • Clone source verification. When a clone tests positive, follow the plant ID lineage backward to confirm whether the source was clean.
  • Growth-stage risk profiles. Some pathogens hit clones hardest, others late flower. Schedule preventatives and inspections for when each pathogen actually strikes.
  • Treatment ROI. Compare pathogen incidence before and after a new biocontrol or pesticide to prove it works before scaling it facility-wide.

Compliance & commercial

  • Pre-harvest screening. Trend pre-harvest results to catch failing batches before state-mandated testing. Avoiding one full-batch destruction pays for the program twice over.
  • Buyer transparency reports. Generate batch-level testing records for wholesale buyers and white-label partners. A clean documented record is a selling point.
  • Insurance and audit logs. Pull a complete historical record per room or plant for crop insurance claims or regulator audits. The work’s already done—just export it.

Where to Start

Every one of these uses data the portal is already collecting. The investment isn’t more testing, it’s just utilizing the customer portal to its full potential.
